Amazing! That the first thing that came out of my mind when I see this place. This elevated park is built on the top of the skeleton of an old rail system. In the 1930’s, when the first time the high line builted, it was originally purpose to lift dangerous freight trains.
Back in the 1980’s, it was abandoned for few years until it was rediscovered in the 2000 and it was under the threat of demolition. Fortunately, a group formed called “friends of the high line”, to protect and fought for the reservation of this abandoned old rail track into a beautiful park in the sky.
The High Line is located in West Side of Manhattan’s. It starts from gansevoort street to west 34th street between 10th and 11th avenue. There are three section in High Line. The 1st section is from gansevoort street to 20th street. The 2nd section is from 20th street to 30th street, and the 3rd section is still on the development pending.
There are plenty of seating for chatting with friends, or enjoying the view. It is absolutely worth for New Yorkers to get out of the vociferation of the city below.
Unfortunately, the weather is so freaking cold. Though it’s not snowing yet in the end of the december, but it’s already limiting my ability to walk only in the 2nd section. I definitely have to go there again for all section in the spring or summer, when the weather is more friendly 😉
